Pool Water Chemistry

Pool Water Chemistry

Pool Water Chemistry helps you track water quality readings across all bodies of water at a property, calculate dosing recommendations, and log chemical applications tied to those readings.

Setting Up Bodies of Water

Before recording readings, define the pools, hot tubs, or other bodies of water at each property:

  1. Navigate to a property's detail page
  2. In the Bodies of Water section, click Add
  3. Enter:
    • Name — e.g. "Main Pool", "Hot Tub", "Spa"
    • Volume (gallons) — required for accurate dosing calculations
    • Surface type — plaster, vinyl, fiberglass, etc.

Technicians can also add new bodies of water directly from the field tech cockpit.

Recording Water Readings

From the field tech cockpit, tap the Test button in the Pool Readings card:

  1. Select the body of water
  2. Enter your test results:
    • pH (ideal: 7.2–7.6)
    • Free Chlorine / FC (ideal: 1.0–3.0 ppm)
    • Total Chlorine / TC (ideal: 1.0–3.0 ppm)
    • Alkalinity (ideal: 80–120 ppm)
    • CYA / Stabilizer (ideal: 30–50 ppm)
    • Calcium Hardness (ideal: 200–400 ppm)
    • Salt (ideal: 2,700–3,400 ppm, for salt pools)
    • TDS (total dissolved solids)
    • Water Temperature
  3. Tap Save Reading

Dosing Calculator

After saving a reading, the system automatically calculates dosing recommendations based on the pool's volume and how far each parameter is from ideal range. Suggestions include:

  • What product to add (e.g., Liquid Chlorine, Muriatic Acid, Soda Ash)
  • How much to add (calculated for your pool's specific volume)
  • Application notes (e.g., "Pour around perimeter with pump running")

You can then confirm the dosing suggestions to create chemical_applications records for the products used.

Ideal Ranges

Parameter Ideal Range What It Controls
pH 7.2 – 7.6 Water comfort, chlorine effectiveness
Free Chlorine 1.0 – 3.0 ppm Sanitization
Total Chlorine 1.0 – 3.0 ppm Combined + free chlorine
Alkalinity 80 – 120 ppm pH stability (buffer)
CYA (Stabilizer) 30 – 50 ppm Protects chlorine from UV
Calcium Hardness 200 – 400 ppm Prevents corrosion/scaling
Salt 2,700 – 3,400 ppm Salt chlorine generator operation
