Field Tech Mobile App
Field Tech Mobile App
The field tech mobile interface (the "cockpit") is a streamlined daily view designed for techs in the field. It shows today's jobs in route order and guides techs through each stop.
My Day view
When a field tech logs in, they see My Day — a list of today's assigned jobs, each showing:
- Customer name and property address
- Job title and time window
- Job status (Scheduled, In Progress, Completed, Deferred)
- Any hazard warnings on the property
Jobs are listed in optimized route order when route optimization is available on the plan. Job order also respects who is qualified for the work when your company uses service categories and qualifications — the office should resolve assignment mismatches before publish.
Starting the day
Tap Start My Day to begin. The system builds an optimized route from your company's address through all stops. If route optimization is enabled, jobs are reordered for the most efficient driving path.
Route status messages
When you open My Day, you may see one of these messages depending on how your route was prepared:
-
No message (jobs listed in numbered order) — Your office has published an optimized route for today. Jobs are pre-sorted in the most efficient driving order with estimated arrival times.
-
"Your route will be optimized when you start your day." — Your jobs are scheduled but the office hasn't published a pre-optimized route yet. When you tap Start My Day, the system builds an optimized driving route automatically. Jobs will be reordered into the best sequence once your day begins.
In both cases you'll end up with an optimized route. The only difference is timing: a published route gives you the order and ETAs before you start, while an unpublished route optimizes on-the-fly when you begin.
Working through jobs
Jobs must be completed in order — you always work on the current (next uncompleted) job:
- Start Job — marks the job as In Progress and records the start time.
- Do the work at the property.
- Complete Job — marks the job as Completed and records the finish time.
When you complete a job, several things may happen automatically:
- The customer is notified that the work is done.
- If the job has a value, a draft invoice may be sent or created.
- If route optimization is active, the next customer may receive an "arriving soon" notification with an estimated arrival time.
Deferring a job (Can't Do)
If you can't complete a job (locked gate, customer not home, weather, equipment issue), tap Can't Do and select a reason:
- Customer not home / no access
- Weather conditions
- Equipment issue
- Parts or materials needed
- Customer requested reschedule
- Scheduling conflict
After selecting a reason, you can optionally pick a suggested reschedule time. The job moves to Deferred status, the crew member is unassigned, and the office is notified so they can reschedule. If you selected a reschedule time, the job is immediately rescheduled and the customer is notified of the new date.
Deferred jobs appear with an amber badge in your job list until the office reschedules them.
No-charge completions
If a job has no pricing (e.g. warranty work, courtesy visit, quality callback), you can still complete it by selecting a no-charge reason when prompted. Tap Complete Job as usual — if the job has $0 pricing, you'll see a picker with options like "Warranty work", "Goodwill / courtesy", "Re-do / quality callback", and others.
No-charge completions skip automatic invoice creation. The job shows a "No Charge" badge on the dashboard and in the customer portal.
Adding notes
Tap Add Note on any job to leave internal notes visible to your team. Notes are timestamped with your name and useful for documenting site conditions, special instructions, or issues.
Sending SMS from a job
Tap the SMS button to send a quick text to the customer — for example, "Running a few minutes late" or "What's the gate code?" Messages go through your company's dedicated number and appear in the conversation thread.
Clock in/out
From the cockpit menu, tap Clock In at the start of your shift and Clock Out at the end. Your GPS location is recorded with each punch for verification. See Clock In & Out for details.
My Schedule and office updates
Use My Schedule in the bottom navigation to see your resolved weekly hours (templates, crew rules, and one-off overrides). If the office changes your working hours or adds a block on your calendar, you may get a Schedule updated web push — tap it to open the correct week. Other roles use the main app’s staff schedule screen instead; see Staff Scheduling.
Offline mode and sync
When connectivity is poor, the app can queue certain actions and sync when you're back online. If the device storage is full, you may see a warning toast — free space so the queue can save reliably. When sync runs, if some server requests fail (for example a 4xx validation error), the app reports how many items did not apply so you can retry — successful and failed items are not treated the same. See Offline Mode for details.
Tips
- Make sure your phone's location services are enabled — GPS is used for route optimization and tracking.
- Complete jobs in order rather than skipping ahead to keep the route and notifications accurate.
- If the company address isn't geocoded (a routing error appears), ask your admin to update the address in Settings → Company Profile.
