Service Categories & Qualifications
Service Categories & Qualifications
Service categories group the work you sell (mowing, irrigation, hardscaping, etc.). Qualifications say which team members and crews are allowed to perform work in each category. Together they keep the calendar, route optimization, and job assignment honest: a job is only placed on a tech or crew that can legally and operationally do the work.
Where to manage categories
- Go to Settings → Service Categories (or the equivalent path from your Settings hub).
- Create categories that match how you sell and schedule work.
- Assign each service in your catalog to a category where it fits.
- Set default duration on services when it helps scheduling and route timing.
Qualifying staff
- Open Settings → Team and edit a team member.
- Select which service categories they are qualified for.
- Save. Their schedule, job assignments, and route eligibility now respect those categories.
Qualifying crews
- Open Crews and edit a crew.
- Assign category qualifications to the crew (and ensure members align with your operational rules).
- When the route planner assigns work to a crew, jobs whose services require categories the crew does not have may be skipped or warned.
How qualifications affect the product
- Job form — suggested techs and crews respect qualifications when assigning work.
- Schedule calendar — dragging or validating assignments may show warnings if someone is not qualified for the job's services.
- Route schedules — optimization tries to place each stop on a qualified tech or crew; unqualified combinations produce scheduling warnings (see Route Optimization).
- Field tech app — today's route follows optimized order; qualification mismatches are primarily resolved in the office before publish.
Tips
- Start with a small set of categories aligned to crews or trucks (e.g. Maintenance vs Install vs Tree).
- If everything shows warnings, check that services have categories and that staff/crews have matching qualifications.
- Empty qualification lists mean fewer constraints — use categories when routing accuracy matters.
